Please read before inquiring about adoption
Our shelter focuses on finding the perfect match for both our pets and adoptive families. We carefully consider each pet’s needs and your lifestyle to ensure a successful adoption.
Prospective adopters of dogs must have a size-appropriate, secure fenced yard attached to their residence to be eligible to adopt a dog. We require medium to large dogs to have a 6’ tall fence and small breeds require a minimum of 4’. We will schedule a time for us to do a home check to make sure the yard and fence are adequate before approving an adoption.
Families with young children, aged five and under, are afforded an excellent chance to adopt puppies or kittens exceeding 12 weeks old, fostering a stable and caring environment. There is no pet age restriction for families with children all above year five.
If multiple families are interested in the same pet, we will conduct introductions and home checks to find the best fit. This has reduced our return rate to just 2%.
We are committed to making the best matches for lifelong, loving homes.
You must receive approval from Roswell Humane Society before adopting an animal through us. We have the right to refuse adoption to anyone based on our discretion.

For Dogs:
Before bringing your new pet home, make sure you have all the essentials ready. This includes a comfortable bed, dog crate, food and water bowls, quality food, dog brush, a leash and collar, and toys. Also, consider where your new dog will sleep, eat, and play, and make any necessary adjustments to ensure their safety and comfort.
When adopting, remember the 3-3-3 rule. It takes a new pet three days to decompress, three weeks to adapt to your family, and three months to bond and build trust. The initial months following adoption can be a period of adjustment for both you and your pet. Be patient and provide your new pet time to acclimate to their new environment. Establish a routine, introduce them slowly to new experiences, and offer plenty of love and reassurance.
Start grooming routines early to help your dog become accustomed to being handled and brushed regularly.
Training is crucial for building a strong bond with your dog and ensuring their safety and happiness. Spending time training will strengthen your connection and help your dog learn essential commands and manners. Consider enrolling in a training class, which can also be a great way to socialize your new pet.
For Cats:
Set up a dedicated room for your new cat with essential resources. This includes a litter box (or two if possible), food and water bowls, a comfortable bed, toys, and a scratching post. For the first few days or weeks, provide separate litter boxes, food and water bowls for your new cat and your existing pets. Ensure there are places for your cat to retreat and feel secure, such as a box or a space under a bed.
Remember the 3-3-3- rule. It takes a new pet three days to decompress, three weeks to adapt to your family, and three months to bond and build trust.
Consider using a pheromone diffuser, which emits a calming pheromone that can help reduce stress.
Start grooming routines early to help your cat become accustomed to being handled.
